Early Sunday Morning of January 30, the Paris police department pulled over Mark Shannon as a routine traffic stop due to Shannon having a headlight out. As the officer approached the vehicle there was reportedly a smell of marijuana. After searching the vehicle, marijuana was found. Shannon was placed in custody. The officers went to search a little more and as they were searching Shannon escaped with the cruser he was placed in.

According to the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Department, “Shannon slipped out of his handcuffs and pried open the plexiglass window that separates the rear of the vehicle from the driver. Shannon reportedly squeezed through the opening and gained control of the vehicle before leaving the scene.”  Why didn’t the officer make sure that the handcuffs were secure and why was the plexiglass window even able to be opened?

“Paris police pursued Shannon from Bourbon County through Fayette County with assistance from various other departments. The stolen police vehicle lost a tire on the interstate before stopping on I-64 West near mile marker 58 in Franklin County.

Shannon was taken into custody by the Paris Police Department and is currently in the Bourbon County Detention Center.”  Bourbon County Sheriff’s Department announced to WKYT News Staff. In the video on WKYT it also says that Shannon hit another police car and the truck tire flew off and he still drove it with only 3 tires until it finally shut down due to too much damage.

Due to their circumstances, things would have been different, if the officer who arrested Shannon had checked to make sure the hand cuffs were on right. This goes to show that these new officers aren’t very reliable compared to more experienced officers. We need to not just hire anyone but hire responsable men and women so our community doesn’t got to crap.
