Every student will at some point have to take a standardized test whether it is the ACT for college emissions or if it is simply the K-Prep test for school. Many students will spend long periods of time studying to get a good score. They will practice flash cards, take special ACT prep classes at school and more. Another good way to study is to simply read a book.

Reading is a fun and efficient way to improve your test scores. When you read something, your brain’s electrical activity increases, and gets your brain to constantly make new connections. Reading also helps improve your memory by increasing mental stimulation and allowing new neurons to be produced in the brain. These things will help with the reading sections of tests. When you constantly read, you start developing a better reading comprehension. This will help when you have to read long passages and answer multiple questions in a short period of time. Many of us will be in the middle of a test and completely forget about everything we just read. So, reading in your spare time whether it is an article about your favorite celebrity or a four hundred page book will help develop and strengthen your memory.

Vocabulary and grammar is something that many students and even adults struggle with. Exposing yourself to new words from books can be beneficial in many ways. You will be introduced to words you have never heard of, but sooner or later will be able to use them in essays and papers. This will overall improve your writing skills, and will help with getting good grades.

The test prep books are always a good option for studying, but if you want an easier and less expensive option reading is the way to go. You’ll be able to develop your memory and vocabulary, while reading about something you like. Something so simple can help with multiple things. It can help you get a good score and get into college. So, next time you want to get a better score just remember that simply reading the back of a snack can help.
