Bourbon County High School has many hardworking teachers that never fail to help BCHS students. These teachers are generous people who have chosen a profession that takes constant time and effort. They have selflessly dedicated their time to educate young minds. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, there are a few select teachers that students at BCHS view as teachers that have not only helped them in an educational aspect but also benefited them personally.
Ms. Carter is one of the teachers who are greatly appreciated at BCHS. She is a kind and helpful teacher who will never turn down an opportunity to help a student. She provides a calm environment in her classroom and therefore students feel safe and motivated to learn. One student, Riley Emmanuel, stated the following about Ms. Carter, “A teacher that has greatly impacted my life is Mrs. Carter. I met Mrs. Carter when I showed up to orientation before sophomore year, and I instantly knew she was going to be one of my favorites. I remember it as if it were yesterday when she asked me if I liked to read, and I just shook my head. I had the pleasure of having her class for three years straight. Although they were all different classes, her teaching style, attitude, and passion never changed. In all honesty, she taught me to love reading and writing. She had this segment of class where we just got to read silently for 10 minutes. It may not seem like a lot, but it truly helped keep her students motivated. I had the pleasure of being her teacher’s aide for the first semester this year, and it was honestly a lot of fun getting to know her more. I’ll be forever grateful for the things she’s done for me, her students, and the school as a whole. Thank you, Mrs. Carter!”
Another greatly appreciated teacher at BCHS is Ms. Daniel. Ms. Daniel is a hardworking and caring teacher who helps her students learn responsibility whilst also being a dependable person for students. She provides stability in the classroom and shows her students how to accomplish their goals. One student, Brailyn Hudnull, stated the following about Ms. Daniel, “ I believe that Mrs. Daniel has been the most beneficial in my high school experience. Throughout these couple months of my freshman year, she has always been helpful, supportive, and a great role model. At the beginning of the school year, I was shy, very worried about schoolwork, and uncomfortable in the atmosphere. However, Mrs. Daniel helped me become more confinement in my work and with my peers, as well as always being there for me no matter what. She is a wonderful teacher and always puts a smile on my face with her funny personality. You will always have such an amazing impact on my high school experience. Thank you so much, Mrs. Daniel!”
If there is one teacher that students will never forget, it’s Mr. Slusher. Mr. Slusher brings whimsicalness and fun to learning the most difficult subjects. He never turns down a chance to help students learn, whether it’s science or a life lesson. One student, Miryam Weinfurtner, stated the following about Mr. Slsuher, “I’ve been to a lot of schools during my academic career which naturally leads to many teachers being in my life. So when a teacher sticks out, you know they’re truly something special. That was Mr. Slusher for me here at Bourbon County. I never had him for a traditional class, but the times I did, he continuously impressed me with his intelligence and overall character. I liked that he treated me as a person, not just a student. It’s shocking how rarely students are treated like actual human beings. This year, I’ve had the privilege of being in Slusher’s mentoring program. He has supported me and my peers throughout the entire year. He’s there when you need him. I appreciate that. Thank you, Mr. Slusher. I have an immense amount of respect for you.”
Another teacher, Mrs. Poe, is another kind and helpful teacher that students appreciate. She dedicates herself to including students and teaching them new life skills. One student, Sophia Weinfurtner, stated the following about Mrs. Poe, “When I came to this school, I felt like an outcast since everyone here had been in this town since birth. Mrs. Poe helped me with this. She accepted me into her class and would often express her appreciation towards me. She made me feel welcome and that I was capable of doing things that I wouldn’t normally do. She is kind, sweet, and helpful to anyone who needs it. When she noticed that my mood was off, she would ask if I was okay. I enjoyed learning with her and hope she continues to teach what she loves and to be passionate about it.”
While there are many teachers that students have mentioned, as a BCHS student, I also have a teacher that I feel like deserves to be mentioned and recognized for his character as a teacher. Mr. Roberts, or more commonly known as “Mr. T”, is a teacher that I’ve never had a class with officially but I still appreciate greatly. Mr T. never fails to make students feel seen. When a student is having a bad day he is consistently the person that will check up on them. He takes his time to recognize students that feel invisible and to create a space that is welcoming for any student. Mr. T is not only a great teacher, but a great person.
Though not every BCHS teacher was mentioned, every teacher in the school is appreciated and valued for the hard work they do. Teaching takes a lot of selflessness and kindness. These teachers have showcased these qualities. BCHS students are blessed to have these teachers who never fail to not only improve their educational experience but also their personal lives.
