MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA — A mother has been sentenced to seven life terms in prison after her 11-year-old daughter gave birth to a baby fathered by the girl’s stepfather. Cherie Walker received the sentence on October 30, 2026, according to KOKH. Prosecutors say she knew about the abuse and did nothing to stop it. Her sentence is six life terms longer than the one given to her husband, the man who abused the girl.
Girl Gave Birth at Home Without Prenatal Care
The girl delivered the baby inside the family’s home in August 2025, and emergency crews were called afterward. Prosecutors told KOKH that she had no prenatal care and had gone more than a year without seeing a doctor.
Testing by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation later confirmed that the father was Dustin Walker, the girl’s stepfather and Cherie Walker’s husband. Prosecutors say the abuse began when the girl was 10.
Jury Convicted Mother on Seven Counts
Jurors found Cherie Walker guilty on July 17, 2026, on six counts of child neglect, one for each of the six children living in the home, and one count of enabling child sexual abuse, KJRH reported. The judge gave her a life term on each count, to be served one after another.
Dustin Walker pleaded guilty in March 2026. In June, he was sentenced to 42 years on six neglect counts, to be served before one life term for sexual abuse of a child under 12, according to KJRH. That means his wife received six more life terms than he did.
Home Conditions Led to Neglect Charges
The neglect charges were based on the conditions inside the house, not on the abuse. The home had no running water and no air conditioning, and prosecutors said they found urine and feces throughout the house. They described the home as “uninhabitable.”
A pediatrician who examined all six children said they were underweight, had lice and had serious dental problems. The neglect affected every child in the home, which is why the mother faced six separate neglect counts.
Prosecutor Says Pregnancy Was Obvious
Prosecutor Janet Hutson said the pediatrician testified that anyone would have known the girl was pregnant, especially during the last trimester. The family had earlier claimed that no one realized she was expecting.
Prosecutors also said child welfare workers tried several times to get into the home during the pregnancy and were turned away every time. Hutson said that while it was clear the husband was the father, prosecutors had to prove that the mother knew about the abuse and allowed it.
Life Sentences Allowed Under State Law
Under Oklahoma law, child neglect and enabling child sexual abuse can each bring up to life in prison. That is why all seven of Cherie Walker’s convictions resulted in a life term. According to KJRH, the girl’s grandmother also faces six counts of child neglect, and that case is still pending.
