Some people are built to do certain things in life and Lucas McCarty is no exception.
Being able to bench press three hundred and fifteen pounds and squat upwards of five hundred pounds in high school is no small achievement, yet Lucas climbed that mountain not only once but twice. Last year in a game against rival Harrison County High School, Lucas sustained a serious knee injury tearing his ACL, MCL, and Meniscus. Even after that setback he once again is back starting as center for the Bourbon County offensive line. When asked about it Lucas said, “It’s one of the biggest battles I’ve ever fought in my life, I mean, from the moment I tore my knee it’s been nothing but pain. Just the sheer will and mind power I needed to come back out on the field just proves that anybody can do it.”
Even after that serious injury, Lucas McCarty is still positive about playing football, “I want to have fun, this is the last year of high school football that I’ll ever play, I want to have the best time that I can.” Every time Lucas steps on the gridiron he is looking for ways that he can be not only a better player, but a better leader as well. “I have to have a better mentality, I have to light a spark inside of me that says, “I need to get that guy in front of me,” I need to stay 100% throughout the game, not only to play better but also to help my brothers and help lift them as well.” It’s hard to not only focus on your assignment but also help out fellow players but Lucas has made it part of his goal to do both.
Lucas is a great football player and person, with aspirations to play in college. He is molding his future by himself. One day you’ll see his name in the bright lights on Saturday Nights.
