The Bourbon County marching band is an 8-time KMEA state champion, and 5-time BOA class A national champion. This year the Bourbon County band put in countless hours each week, for months to prepare for this wonderful season: To Fly Again. Led by our Bourbon County band director, Mr. Grey, who just joined us this year. Last Saturday, the band went to the state competition and won in the class 4A division. With all of their dedication, we got to see them improve every week, at our Friday night home football games. Next up for our band is nationals which will take place on Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Marleigh Brummet, who is in the color guard and has been since 2020, was interviewed about her feelings on this year’s marching band. Marleigh stated, “I feel like we’re getting lots of work done and we’ve accomplished a lot as a team. All of the newbies have improved since day one and our group as a whole is doing amazing”. The band’s work has 100% not gone unnoticed and everyone who watches the band can tell how much work they put in to perfect their performance.
The next interviewee was Carter Wells, who has been in the band for 3 years playing the Vibraphone. Carter was interviewed and asked what the band in particular does to prepare for nationals. He responded with “As students, we don’t do much to prepare for nationals than we do any other competition. We took most of the week off last week after state so we could recuperate and calm down a bit, but besides that, it’s just been practice as normal, it helps if we just treat it like a regular competition, because that’s not as much pressure, stress, or anxiety about” The band is doing great this year and will continue to execute their band perfectly, the whole school is cheering them on for their performance and hopefully we come back with yet another national title.
The Bourbon County band has worked various hours for weeks upon weeks to prepare for this band season. Mr. Grey was welcomed this year and has led the band to state and now hopefully nationals! We are all so excited to see what the band will accomplish in the following months!
